Dwarf Dump

Oh sweet mother, new blog posting layout. Neato!

Time to dump some of the released stuff from the soon(never) to be titled 'dwarf game' I've been fussing over.

My job is DO ALL ART. Character art/designs, environments, effects, sounds, UI AND music(somehow). Everything I've done so far was pretty much just to make sure the concept worked. Its as if we're planning on making a 3 course meal and so far we only have plates.

So, yes what does that look like? Well first we have the general direction for the dwarfs...dwarves...dwarfs? Enemies and some items for fun:

I don't even feel like I've established a set style to work with yet but its coming along.
Then there's environments and UI:

That's not exactly what the game will look like, since we have a fun little lighting engine that might make it look a little more like this:

Scary! I hope.
After designing a bunch of enemies, I realized that the style they were in did not match that of the dorfs(usually what we call them). So I decided to change the dorfs to fit. Here we have dwarf version 0.021:

Not sure why the nose got bigger. Probably a bug.
Once we had the animation program working(nearly) I got a chance to bang out some quick(sloppy) animations. I'm pretty damn rusty!(it's been 6 years) I did a rough animation for a dwarf and an enemy to make sure everything worked:

Love those bounding boxes! He used to have a penis but...it got really cold out. You know how it is.
The deadsack may be a bit gruesome for the game but I just had to give it a try. It also showed me some of the editors limitations. I'm going to have to be clever(cheap) and work around them.

Next was the particle editor...OOOH EFFECTS! This was purely trial and error, I had no idea what I was doing. It pretty much amounted to drawing random shapes in photoshop and then fiddling with the 600 sliders in the editor. But I did create fire! So I figure I'm about as skilled as Tom Hanks:

Next will be the level editor. That will be a post in of its self!

Roughing it

The rough for my skylord print. I still kind of like this more than the final. Just looks a little more crazy which is what I like to see. Those clouds sure are low though.

Thanks for the gift, Mr. Dove.

It's coming

I'm telling you, the penis craze is coming. I'm preparing for it. It's going to hit hard and fast AND deep. You won't even see it coming, you'll just feel it. People are going to want as much as possible and will probably pay any price to get their hands on some. So I say start drawing them now, so when the penetrates the hearts and minds of the world, you'll be ready to give them what they want. For a price. I figure I'll have about 200 different paintings ready to go before it hits.
Be ready.

PS. For some reason this . . . er Wolverine vs. Hulk picture was pretty popular last year. I sold 2 . . . because I only had 2.

Gotta Go Fast

What can I say ...

Gotta go fast

My Sonic print for this year. 100% Sonic quality.

Interspecies breeding

Ok, these ones got a little out of hand. Granted they are the more odd looking of the monsters but maybe I could have held back a bit more.

Monster Hunter Cafe

I went down to the local monster watering hole. With my trusty binoculars in hand, I drew everyone who showed up for a drink.

More souls for the offering!

Right after the Shadow of the Colossus/ICO ps3 bundle was confirmed, my game of the year 2009, Demon's Souls, achieved Greatest Hits status. This almost guarantees a sequel since it sold 500,000+ copies out of no where.

They'll be bigger than ever!

Wal-mart is already taking preorders. It must be true! Finally it has come!

You don't have half of the map to this.

*Spoilers ahead! If you actually believe Monster Hunter can be spoiled*

Boy oh boy, that last boss. Giant leviathan elder dragon. Ceadeus! He sure beats Lao Shan Lung in epicness. A huge lumbering dragon slowly walking down a canyon towards a city wall with some defenses. Pfft.
I'd rather have my giant, elegant, horned whale, gliding through massive underwater caves lit by thin beams of light from above. It was incredibly surreal. Helped mainly by the music. And in the end he actually fights you, all the while some track, reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell, plays in the background. Either way it was a great "final" boss.

I really should add in Cha-cha to the right to balance this thing's composition out but just having the one character fits the feel much better.

Hunt in your dreams

I seem to have trouble choosing between updating my blog and my deviantart. Why can't I just update both at once?! I don't know. Its terrible. I'm sure one could guess which took priority recently.

Anyways, I had a dream I was watching, playing, or in a game of monster hunter and this was the monster being fought. It just looks like a T-rex with its neck and head missing. I'm not sure what my subconscious mind was thinking when it came up with that.

Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes?!

I just HAD to do a Snake print.

My only regret is I didn't do it in time for AX 2008 when I met David Hayter. But I finally got around to making one.

Trying to think of the coolest Snake image was taxing. It began with 'which Snake is the most bad ass'. Well I'd say Big Boss Snake from MGS3. Then what is the most bad ass image of him. Of course when he's all hardcore topless like an 80's action movie hero laying into some baddies with a Mosin Nagant . . . wait no, a machine gun!

So after watching a couple of Rambos, Commandos, Terminators and the like, I came up with a pile of ridiculous machine gun poses.

Thin those out to a triawesome of candidates. And then finally select our lucky winner.

Stick a bunch of 'too new' gun silhouettes and a camo looking metal texture in the background. Make it a crazy bright color and hopefully the end result looks like the PSP MGS promo artwork.

This didn't actually start as a print. More just for fun. But I saw potential in that sweaty torso of manliness.

Bad ass Mission: Success.

E3 Orgasm

Well the Big Three's press conferences have come and gone with plenty of ups and downs. Surprises like, Nintendo dumping a steaming pile of games all over and Sony(who I thought was going to impress me the most) not bringing anything I was hoping for.
No shows Last Guardian, Pikimin 3, Demon's Souls 2, Ico/SotC HD pack and Uncharted 3 made me pretty sad. Most of those are long shots but Last Guardian? Come on now!
Twilight Princess' uneasy steps towards the Wind Waker style just seemed weird. I read that it looks that way to pay tribute to 19th century impressionism. Also that(finally) "Skyward Sword" will feature a soundtrack not unlike Mario Galaxy's. Hurray!
Anyways here is a review of a couple of random E3 announcements. Reviewed with facial expressions.(Let me just completely skip the sports stuff to avoid an overflow of negative faces)

Overall I'd say I'm probably going to be taking home a majority of the things I saw on stage over the last 2 days. My wallet is quivering with anticipation.

BREAKING NEWS

George Walton Lucas, Jr., died today at age 66. During an interview at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in L.A. about his involvement in the new title "Star Wars The Old Republic" it was brought to Mr. Lucas' attention that his shoe was untied. In his attempt to look down and tie it, he succumbed to his Jabba Du Neck which quickly suffocated him. He died standing, just like Obi Wan. George Lucas was known for being the owner, and visionary behind the Star Wars franchise. He will be dearly missed . . . despite the terrible atrocities he committed with Episodes one, two and three.

Hate Lakitu

Autum hates Lakitu. Most annoying enemy in any Mario game ever. An enemy that stays out of reach, follows you, and tosses nigh invincible spiky turtles in your path. And that's why Autum loved the hammer bros suit. She can't hate everything!

Autum loved Kuribo boot too. Nothing can stop the green boot. Not even Bowser.

Autum hate Tanuki

Can't say Autum was too happy with the Tanuki suit. I guess it is somewhat embarrassing.

While I wait for the means to get my commissions from Akon onto my blog, I will mention that I finally, after 20 years, completed Mario Bros 3. Completed every level in every world that I could see on the map. I played this game to death when I was younger. Trying to remember if I beat it or not ...and I can't. I know I used to flutes to skip most of the game and the P power to skip most of the final levels. Not sure if I beat Bowser though.

In any case, now it is complete!

Apparently Autum is not fond of the frog suit either. Maybe its because you look like you're being eaten when you wear it. She is not a Vorarephile.

Damn, did she like any of the new power ups?

Kingslayer

Finally got around to ending poor, fallen Arthas. Earning me the title of Kingslayer. Which I think is the coolest title one can get, at least in a fantasy game.

Always popping out my home city flag, standing next to my favorite taurens. There's the new Lich King in the back, all flamey eyed and huge head.

Thank god Tirion isn't in this shot, I hate that guy.

Burn the Heretic! Kill the Mutant! Purge the Unclean!

Aside from silly comics, I also like to whip out some nasty faces. Simple yet grotesque and very fun to draw. All inspired by the crude MSpaint drawings and awkward postings of anonymous web forums/image boards(ya that's right, avoid naming the place, we all know it) Here we have someone who clearly shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

And then for the ever so common rage inducing forum topic:

Do you know the difference?

I'd like to think this is the difference between the casual gaming experience and the hardcore gaming experience . . . if it was a restaurant dining experience.

Drawing little comics is fun and relaxing. I'd invite anyone to give it a whirl.

THE KINGDOM IS IN PERIL....

...build me a statue.

King Varian Wrynn puts a statue of himself outside his newly upgraded keep in Stormwind. Meanwhile, an entire section of the city, The Gardens, is a smoking hole in the ground.

Priorities man . . . priorities.
